Fussa Temple

In the small town that we live in west of Tokyo, we sometimes happen upon new temples and shrines that we did not know existed.  While out a couple of weeks ago I missed a turn and puled into a non discrete driveway to pull a U turn and found this jewel.   This temple is estimated to have origins as far back as the 1500’s.  There are relics present that show this age, but for the most part the temple grounds are very kept and in some places modernized.

The coi pond and bonsai trees that encompass the temple create an amazing and peaceful atmosphere that can only be experienced in this environment.  The soothing fall breeze that over takes you as you sit next to the pond quickly brings you back to how things were on this very spot 500 years ago in an instant.  You can close your eyes and easily imagine monks walking the grounds and traditional Shinto weddings unfolding before you.  Moments like these will be sorely missed once we move, but will forever be remembered.
