Alaska Trails

The access to the mountains of Alaska is amazing.  From Anchorage you are in the backcountry in 30 minutes.  The remoteness, which seems counter intuitive, of these areas that are so close is unparalleled.

I was recently on a trail running shoot in and around Anchorage with close friend and La Sportiva endurance athlete Andrew Fast.  After only a few days we realized what is possible in only an afternoon from downtown.  Weather your looking for wildlife or a solo mission to Rabbit Lake, which is really one in the same, adventure is only moments away.  Be prepared for bears and take the right precautions, because chances are you will see some near or far.

Our excitement each morning was palpable.  We woke and drove out to the days destination for shoots and exercise nearly shaking with anticipation.  The vastness of Alaska is something that is very hard to convey even in photos or video, but as we found, easily experienced each day.  I do have to say that as much as I love being in the mountains, I love being able to hit a local brew pub for crab or halibut and beer each night.  A true luxury of nature being so close.

While this was a spec shoot, I can not post the best images from our trip, but I will leave you with a few to give you an idea of what we were involved in.  Next Alaska trip is already being planned!!  Farther north and off the grid……
