Tomoko Ogawa: The Women Who Sent V14

Like most of the rock addicted Japanese people that I have come in contact with here in Japan, Tomoko Ogawa is no different.  Given the choice 9 times out of 10 she would choose to be outside working on one of her current projects.  Most recently as most of us already know, Tomoko became the first women to break the V14 mark with her send of Catharsis.  First sent by Japanese strongman Dai Koyomada in 2010 and later confirmed by Daniel woods as a V14 in 2012.  Catharsis is a long, perfectly flat roof that consists of about 15 or so moves on small pockets and sharp edges.  Tomoko spent three years working the problem before making the send.  When I asked her how it felt being the first women to send V14 she responded with a huge smile “I am very happy and excited.  Now I am working Hydra V13.”  Before her send of Catharsis Tomoko sent two V12’s one of which is just to the left on the same roof linking up with Catharsis’ finish.  “I am not so strong, just motivated.”  she tells me smiling.  I think we can all agree that Tomoko Ogawa is quite strong and undoubtedly motivated.

In December, Tomoko is planning on going to Switzerland and has her sights set on several other international destinations which are yet to be determined.  Good luck Tomoko and congratulations on the unprecedented send!!
